Activity
The high-risk pregnancy unit includes an in-patient unit and an outpatient clinic.
The in-patient unit is a 20-bed department where pregnant women with different problems are treated: women with threatened abortion or premature birth, multi fetal pregnancy, premature uterine contractions, pre-eclampsia, recurrent vaginal bleeding, and others.
In the in-patient unit, pregnant women get close and thorough follow up in order to identify any complication, undertake the right treatment and deliver the baby safely. Delivery of the baby may be conducted on a scheduled timetable or when an emergency comes up, like fetal bradycardia and suspected uterine rupture. In these situations, the pregnant woman is transferred urgently to the adjacent operating room for urgent Cesarean section.
Pregnant women with risk factors like diabetes, hypertension, collagen diseases, and heart disease are followed up in the high-risk pregnancy clinic.
The high-risk pregnancy unit at the Barzilai medical center is well known around Israel and many pregnant women come to get treatment from areas far away from the hospital.
