Prof. Abraham Baruchin from Barzilai Medical Center was chosen as president of the International Society for Laser Surgery and Medicine

Prof. Abraham Baruchin, a plastic surgeon and head of the Laser Surgery Unit at Barzilai Medical Center was chosen for the 3rd time as the society secretary.

Society for Laser Surgery and Medicine (ISLSM) in Tokyo, Japan on December 2009, Prof. Abraham Baruchin, a plastic surgeon and Head of the Laser Surgery Unit at Barzilai Medical Center was chosen for the 3rd time as the society secretary.
The society was established in 1975 by Prof. Isaac Kaplan – the developer of the first surgical laser device – the Sharplan (named after its developers Kaplan and Sharon). The society was the first and the oldest societies in the laser field worldwide). Ever since it was established many union and corporations joined ISLSM and as for today the society has many members from all over the world, including countries Israel has no formal relations with.
On 2003 Prof. Baruchin was chosen as the society secretary for the first time. On 2005 he was chosen for a second cadence. On 2007 he was chosen as the society president and during the 2009 congress he was elected again as the society secretary.
Prof. Baruchin is a third generation native of Tel Aviv, Israel.
His grandfather, born in Jerusalem, was a doctor as well as his son.After his military service in Golani, he acquired medical education in Italy. His first internship was in general surgery at several medical centers in Israel – Asaf Harofeh, Donolo, Ichilov and Hasharon. He then continued to practice in plastic surgery at Shaare Zedek, Jerusalem, with Prof. Nahum Ben-Hur. In 1979 he won the British Council scholarship to specialize in Britain. On his return to Israel he accepted the position of senior physician in the plastic surgery department at Soroka hospital and worked there until he was called, on 1981, to establish the plastic surgery department at Barzilai Medical Center. In 1999 Prof. Baruchin began showing interest in laser surgery and went to several seminars in Europe and the United States. On his return he founded the laser surgery service at Barzilai Medical Center, which he directs to this day. At the same time he continues to teach students at Ben Gurion medical school, where he began teaching in 1981. Today he teaches young doctors and researchers the area of medical writing in addition to plastic surgery and aesthetics.
In his post at the International Society for Laser Surgery Prof. Baruchin seeks strengthening ties with overseas medical centers, encourage students exchange and promote more research in the field of laser.
