An innovative surgery was performed today at the Barzilai Medical Center to replace a knee joint. The surgery was performed on a woman who suffered from erosion of the knee joint cartilage.

The innovative implant, which was implanted for the first time in Israel, facilitates motion similar to the normal motion of a normal knee, in other words a rotary motion within an inner compartment as opposed to a linear motion in an outer compartment.

This is intended to significantly improve the post-surgery functioning of the knee, on which the surgery was performed. The technological breakthrough offers good tidings for thousands of patients suffering from erosion of the knee cartilage.

This innovation is part of a large project undertaken at the hospital in the orthopedic department for excellence in treatment and improvement of technology.

The innovative surgery that was performed today is a continuation of innovation as part of the hospital administration’s policy to provide professional and innovative treatment, such as frontal access with a unique table without disconnecting or harming the muscle and an overall approach of reducing the post surgery pain, including nerve blocks.
