Activity
Children who are afraid of dental procedures or have serious medical and behavioral problems need special attention.
The pediatric dental medical doctors and surgeons have been specialized in providing dental care for children of all ages who need complicated dental interventions under local anesthesia, sedation (conscious sedation) or under general anesthesia. The clinic is
equipped with modern safety dental supplies required for treating children. All the dental surgeons are qualified to perform dental procedures under sedation. Dental operations under general anesthesia are conducted at the daycare surgical unit with the supervision of an anesthesiologist. General anesthesia allows performance of several dental procedures within a short period instead of multiple sessions.
The various procedures done at the clinic include:
-
Treatment of "bottle caries" that affect the upper frontal deciduous teeth (milk teeth).
-
Restoration of primary teeth, including amalgam fillings, filling of slots.
-
Root canal treatment.
-
Temporary dental crowns.
-
Tooth extraction.
-
Treatment of teeth trauma and fixation of traumatic tooth avulsion.
Academic and Scientific Activity
The dental doctors of the unit are involved in many studies on the effect of certain congenital and acquired anomalies on the development of the teeth, and in development of new dental treatment methods. The staff published five new articles this year in the local and international scientific papers.
The pediatric dentistry clinic is qualified for running full residency in pediatric dentistry, and right now, there are nine dentists in this residency.
Prof Zilberman is the head of the course of ”pathophysiology of the mouth" for the fourth year students of pharmacy at the Ben Gurion University of the Negev.
Community Outreaching
The staff of the clinic is constantly involved in "the project of the tooth" at the schools in Ashkelon, which includes lectures on teeth hygiene, diseases of the teeth and gums, and taking care of the teeth. The pupils are also invited to visit the dental clinic and get a free dental examination.
