Renewal of Accreditation by the JCI

Accreditation of the medical centers in Israel is performed by an external international audit to estimate the safety and quality of the medical treatment all around the center. This process gives the medical center an international acknowledgement that it meets the highest standards of safety and quality that were recognized by the international audit.

During this week, 5 JCI examiners spent full five days during which they examined all the processes at the different clinical departments, units, emergency department, operative theatre, outpatient clinics, education and research, and the management of the resources and human resources throughout the medical center while focusing on the safety and quality of care and the processes of self-debriefing.

The examiners were very satisfied with the high standards of care, quality and safety and specially the preparedness for emergency situations, war and disaster situations and the audits after each event.

During the preparations for the JCI accreditation day, the Barzilai Medical Center passed a preparatory process during which many lessons were learned and improved.

Professor Yaniv Sherer, the vice president of the medical center, who is one of the JCI staff and in-charge of the whole process in the hospital, said that "the Barzilai Medical Center passed the JCI examination process with excellence not only as a hospital but also as a University Hospital. More than 300 standard items were checked carefully with more than 1330 sub-items and all were found to meet the meticulous standards. I want to thank all the various members of the medical and non-medical staff and on top the accreditation and quality and safety staff on their hard work to improve the innovation of quality and care. The result of the audit is the proof of the excellency of Barzilai that thousands of patients get every day".

Professor Hezi Levy, the chairman of the medical center, added : "This is an important and prestigious audit that cannot be overestimated and allows the staff an opportunity for a self-check all over the different sections of quality, safety of treatment, infection control, medical education and research, management of resources, manpower and infrastructures and many other processes. This audit concludes months of intensive preparations that all the medical and non-medical staff were involved with while continuing the regular tasks and missions of providing excellent care to the patients throughout war events and the corona outbreak. I wish to thank the members of the hospital management and our honorable employees who brought us to this high degree of excellency and service, and who never missed any effort throughout their daily hard work to improve the medical service, education, research, logistics and taking care of manpower. I am sure that we shall continue to improve what still needs to be improved and aspire for better and professional service to all our clients".
